Confession: I am a Tea Time Virgin
A couple of months ago, Christina wrote a post titled "
Awesome Things That Publishers Do". It involved listing things she liked that publishers do such as pre-order campaigns, promotional campaigns, and just being friendly. One thing that she brought up is Epic Read's Tea Time, and I have to admit I wasn't surprised. It's one of the first things I learned about when I joined Twitter. I've been online when it happens and I've seen all the excitement. And yet... I am a Tea Time Virgin.
I really am quite confused with myself and why I have held back from participating in Epic Reads Tea Time. I've been thinking about it for the past few days and have come up with a list of possible things that might be holding me back from participating.
1. It is intimidating. I feel like this is the biggest thing for me. I see everyone talk about Epic Reads Tea Time and the second they do there is tons of CAPLOCKS and book shimmies and talk about a hedgehog. It's sort of given me the impression that it's this super amazing thing that everyone loves, and it sort of worries me that I might not feel the same. What if I try it and don't like it? Will everyone think I'm crazy? At least for now I can just plead ignorance.
2. I have no idea when / where / what. This may be partially due to laziness, but I honestly have no clue when Epic Reads Tea Time happens. I could go out of my way and try to find out, but I generally have no desire. Maybe if I were explicitly told when it's on, where I can access it, and what to do while watching it I would join in, I would participate.
3. It's soooooo long. Many of us bloggers complain that we do not have enough time in a day. The last time I checked, this tea time thing is usually like a half hour long? (Or that's what it looks like according to YouTube.) Something about that just seems like too much commitment for me.
4. Do I really need more encouragement to buy books? My wish list grows a ridiculous amount as it is being involved in the book blogosphere. I'm worried that participating in Tea Times will just encourage my craving for books (with a focus on HarperCollins), which I definitely don't need.
5. It'll make me want to vlog. I currently do a video here and there, but overall I'm not huge into the whole BookTube thing. It's not that I think it's bad. I just like where I'm at. But, I fear that if I start watching videos of people talking about books (even if its a live stream) it will make me want to become a BookTuber. I just get crazy sometimes.
So what do you think? I need to know! If you haven't participated in Epic Reads Tea Time, why? Is it because you share similar worries as I do? If you have participated, help me out and share your experiences! Maybe I'll muster up the courage to join in if I get even encouragement.
